Home Affairs Minister Tito Invites South Sumatra Figures to Formulate Concrete Programmes for 2027-2029
Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian has invited regional heads and figures from South Sumatra to formulate concrete priority programmes that can be realised in the period 2027 to 2029. He conveyed this invitation at the Halalbihalal event for the South Sumatra diaspora community at Griya Agung on Saturday (25/4). Tito explained that the meeting stemmed from the initiative of South Sumatra figures who wished to strengthen togetherness while encouraging tangible contributions to regional progress. “It is not that we lack nationalism and prioritise primordialism or regionalism. No. That is not it,” he stated. According to him, this regional spirit should instead be directed into positive energy through measured programmes with direct impacts on society. Therefore, he encouraged local governments (Pemda) in the South Sumatra region to compile realistic priority agendas that can be completed in a relatively short time, focusing on achievements that can be felt within three years. As an example, the Home Affairs Minister pointed to the importance of accelerating infrastructure development that can open connectivity between regions. The development of the toll road network in Sumatra is seen as able to drive mobility, strengthen economic activities, and open tourism potential in various areas. He added that the results of the meeting will be followed up through further discussions with central-level stakeholders to formulate priority programmes ready for implementation. The event was also attended by DPD Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, Minister of Villages and Underdeveloped Regions Yandri Susanto, as well as several other related parties.
