Head of BPJPH Haikal Hasan Meets Yemeni Ambassador Salem Ahmed to Strengthen Bilateral Halal Product Cooperation
KOMPAS.com – Yemen’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Salem Ahmed Abdulrahman Balfakeeh, warmly welcomed the visit of the Head of the Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, to the Yemeni Embassy in Jakarta on Thursday (23/4/2026).
The meeting, which began with a shared breakfast, discussed enhancing good relations and strengthening bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Yemen in the field of halal product assurance, particularly regarding the registration mechanism for halal certificates for products originating from Yemen that will enter the Indonesian market.
“This meeting ensures that the strengthening of cooperation between Indonesia and Yemen becomes increasingly productive with the support of an effective and accountable halal product registration and certification process as a form of commitment to providing legal certainty and consumer protection,” said Haikal Hasan in a press release received by Kompas.com on Sunday (3/4/2026).
He emphasised that this strengthening of cooperation aligns with the mandate of Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance. This regulation requires all products circulating in Indonesia to have halal certification.
Furthermore, Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024 stipulates that foreign products entering, circulating, and traded in Indonesian territory must register their halal certificates through BPJPH.
Therefore, this process is part of the national halal assurance system to ensure comprehensive compliance with halal standards, from material aspects, production processes, to distribution.
“This cooperation also ensures closer ties between Indonesia and Yemen, not only for current trade needs but also opening broader collaboration opportunities in the future,” he added.
This initiative not only strengthens bilateral relations between Indonesia and Yemen but also serves as a strategic step in promoting the harmonisation of global halal standards and providing certainty and protection for consumers in Indonesia.
As a concrete follow-up, the halal certification registration process for Yemeni products is scheduled to begin next week.
