Jakarta, Kompas.com - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno served as the inspecting officer for the National Education Day (Hardiknas) ceremony 2026 at the courtyard of Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Monday (4/5/2026).

In his speech, Rano stressed that all children in Jakarta must be able to attend school and should not be left behind due to any problems.

“The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government believes that no child should be left behind just because of circumstances. No dreams should be locked away due to issues of cost, diplomas, access, or disasters,” said Rano on Monday.

For this reason, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has prepared several programmes. One of them is the diploma waiver programme in collaboration with BAZNAS BAZIS DKI Jakarta.

According to Rano, the programme is important because diplomas are the primary requirement for job applications or continuing education.

“In 2026, the first phase will distribute diplomas to 2,026 students, from primary school, junior high school, senior high school, vocational high school, to community learning centres, with a total budget of nearly Rp 4 billion,” he said.

In addition, Pemprov DKI released 561 vocational high school graduates to work abroad, including in Japan, Malaysia, and Germany. Rano stated that Jakarta’s vocational graduates are now ready to compete in the global job market.

Pemprov DKI will also implement a free private school programme starting from the 2026/2027 academic year. This programme covers 103 private schools in Jakarta.

The programme is part of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung’s policy to help children from low-income families continue their education.

Not only in Jakarta, Pemprov also distributed aid for schools affected by disasters in several regions through the Distrik Peduli movement. The total aid collected reached Rp 2.2 billion.

Aid was provided to schools in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, in the form of laptops, clean water facilities, and school equipment.

Rano emphasised that education must continue even in difficult conditions.

On that occasion, Rano also recalled the educational values bequeathed by Ki Hajar Dewantara, including the philosophy “Ing ngarsa sung tuladha, ing madya mangun karsa, tut wuri handayani”.

He also expressed appreciation to teachers, who he described as guardians of civilisation, and encouraged students to remain enthusiastic in pursuing their education.

“Education is the path to liberating humanity and opening the future,” he said.

“Education is a long path to liberating humanity. That is the great spirit bequeathed by Ki Hajar Dewantara,” said Rano.
