Government to Expand Social Assistance Digitalisation to 42 Cities Starting 1 June
The government is preparing to expand the social assistance (bansos) digitalisation programme from Banyuwangi Regency to 42 regencies and cities across Indonesia, starting on 1 June 2026.
Chair of the Government Digital Transformation Acceleration Committee, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, explained that the pilot in Banyuwangi Regency has validated that utilising integrated administrative data—including population, asset ownership, civil service, and electricity consumption—significantly improves the accuracy of recipient eligibility.
“After 77 years of Indonesia’s independence, poverty data is truly beginning to be administered in a more integrated and systematic manner. Therefore, interoperability and cross-sector synchronisation must proceed without obstacles,” Luhut stated in a written remark in Jakarta on Thursday.
On 1 June 2026, the registration process and kick-off for bansos digitalisation in the 42 regencies and cities will officially begin.
The data collection process is targeted to be completed by the end of July 2026, followed by a gradual mechanism for distributing bansos based on the latest verified data.
In this phase, the system is estimated to manage data from 10 to 11 million registered households for bansos.
From the technology infrastructure readiness perspective, the Government Services Connector System (SPLP), managed by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), is confirmed to have been tested and is ready to facilitate automatic data exchange interoperability mechanisms.
This system will synchronise data from eight main agencies: Dukcapil, BPS, BKN, PLN, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, ATR/BPN, Korlantas Polri, and Kemensos.
“I request that every data-owning agency ensure the Service Level Agreement (SLA) is met to avoid bottlenecks in the field. Additionally, cybersecurity must be maintained at the highest standards by BSSN, as this involves the data of millions of Indonesians,” he said.
As a form of oversight, President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to directly review the implementation and system readiness in the field through working visits to Surabaya, Banyuwangi, and Bali on 8–9 June 2026, followed by a Limited Meeting at Tampak Siring Palace.
To ensure the entire process runs according to target, the committee team is holding online coordination meetings every two days to monitor progress on repository integration, local data testing, and data staging tests.
“If all these stages proceed as planned and our system fundamentals are well maintained, we are optimistic that the national rollout of the digital social protection system can be carried out in October as directed by the President,” Luhut stated.
