Government and Private Sector Collaborate to Donate Two Solar Power Plants to Sumenep Residents
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The government and industrial sector have collaborated to support the development of renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia through the donation of two solar power plants (PLTS) to the people of Sumenep Regency, East Java.
The two PLTS units, equipped with battery energy storage systems (BESS), were donated by the Tsingshan Group through the Torang Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) Foundation.
“We express our gratitude and appreciation to the Torang IWIP Foundation, the Sumenep Regency Government, and PT PLN (Persero) for their collaboration in realizing this pilot project. This initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision to accelerate the pace of national energy transition,” said Rosan Roeslani, Chief Executive Officer of Danantara Indonesia, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The donation, also initiated by the Danantara Indonesia Investment Management Agency, is expected to expand access to reliable and sustainable electricity for the community and support the Indonesian Government’s vision towards energy self-sufficiency.
The initiative was realised through cooperation between the Torang IWIP Foundation, the Sumenep Regency Government, and PT PLN (Persero), marked by the signing of an agreement at Wisma Danantara in Jakarta on Friday (13 March).
The signing of the cooperation agreement was also witnessed by Rosan as a demonstration of support for collaboration among various parties in expanding access to clean energy for the community.
Sumenep Regent Achmad Fauzi Wongsojudo, who was also present at the ceremony, stated that accelerating electricity access in the Sumenep region is indeed very much needed.
“This donation is very meaningful as it can drive electrification that will be directly felt by the community,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wahyu Budhi Santoso, Chairman of the Torang IWIP Foundation, expressed the Tsingshan Group and the Torang IWIP Foundation’s commitment to supporting the Indonesian Government’s vision to meet and equalise energy access for the community.
“We hope that the donation of two PLTS, each with a capacity of 1 megawatt peak (MWp), equipped with BESS each with a capacity of 4 megawatt hours (MWh), can provide stable electricity supply to the community in two villages in Sumenep Regency. This effort is also supported through cooperation with PT PLN (Persero),” he said.
The project will be implemented on Gili Labak Island and Pagerungan Kecil Island in Sumenep Regency and is estimated to provide electricity to approximately 2,000 households.
