The Indonesian Government has urged umrah pilgrims to defer their departure and requested Indonesian citizens (WNI) to postpone travel to the Middle East region.

This follows the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States-Israel coalition. The advisory was issued following an attack on Tehran on Saturday, 28 February 2026, local time. According to reports dated 1 March 2026, this conflict has closed airspace across the Middle East, including Iran through to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia, stated that the deferment of umrah departures is being implemented to ensure the safety of all Indonesian nationals. The Government has also asked all pilgrims currently in Saudi Arabia, along with their families in Indonesia, to remain calm and not panic.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is continuing to coordinate with Saudi Arabian authorities, airlines, and Umrah Travel Organisers (PPIU) to ensure that pilgrims experiencing delayed returns are handled appropriately.

The Government has also urged the public not to be easily swayed by unclear information and requested that all parties refer to official government sources to avoid misinformation. Regarding the organisation of the 1447 H/2026 M hajj pilgrimage, the Government has confirmed that there is currently no impact on ongoing preparations. All planning and coordination stages remain on schedule.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has also advised Indonesian citizens to defer travel to the Middle East region until the situation becomes more conducive. According to a statement via the @Kemlu_RI X account on Sunday, 1 March 2026, “We also advise Indonesian citizens planning to travel through or transit in the Middle East region to reconsider their travel plans and defer travel until the situation becomes more conducive.”

In emergency situations, Indonesian citizens can contact the Hotline of the Directorate of Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via the number 0812-9007-0027.
