JAKARTA – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming extended his condolences on the passing of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, General (retired) Try Sutrisno.

Gibran expressed his sympathies through Instagram on Monday (2 March 2026), stating: “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. I express my deepest condolences on the death of General (ret.) Try Sutrisno, the sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, on Monday (2 March 2026) following medical care at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto hospital.”

According to Gibran, the nation has lost a leader who dedicated his life to the country, serving as both a military officer and statesman. He prayed that the deceased would receive the best place in the presence of Allah and that his family would be granted strength in their grief.

“May Allah accept all his acts of worship and service to the nation and state, forgive his shortcomings, and grant his family strength and patience, amen,” Gibran said.

Try Sutrisno died at age 90 at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto hospital in Jakarta on Monday (2 March 2026) at 06:58 WIB. His family stated he had no specific underlying illness that caused his death.

Taufik Dwi Cahyono, Try Sutrisno’s son, explained that his father’s health deteriorated due to advanced age. “My father’s condition declined simply because of his age; everything deteriorates at that age. There was no specific serious illness—rather, his respiratory capacity and other functions were declining due to old age,” Taufik said at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto on Monday.

Taufik noted that RSPAD and presidential medical teams provided the best possible treatment. Try Sutrisno was admitted to hospital on 16 February after his appetite declined. “He was admitted from 16 February. His appetite suddenly dropped, so we brought him here, his condition fluctuated, he was given medication and food,” Taufik said.
