Family States Try Sutrisno Did Not Suffer from Specific Illness Before Death
JAKARTA — The family of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno has stated that he did not have a specific medical history that caused his death on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Taufik Dwi Cahyono, Try’s son, stated that his father’s health declined due to his advanced age of 90 years. “My father’s decline was due to his age; everything deteriorates at that age. There was no specific particular illness; it was simply age-related, with declining respiratory function and such,” Taufik said at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto on Monday, as quoted by Kompas TV.
“He was admitted on 16 February. His appetite simply dropped suddenly, so we brought him here. His condition fluctuated, he was given medicine and fed,” Taufik explained.
Taufik noted that the medical team at RSPAD and the presidential office had made efforts to provide Try with the best possible treatment. However, on Monday morning, the family was informed that Try’s condition had deteriorated and he had passed away.
Try Sutrisno died at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto on Monday morning. His body is currently at a funeral home in the Menteng area of Jakarta for viewing. Subsequently, his body will be prayed over at Masjid Sunda Kelapa before burial at Taman Makam Pahlawan Kalibata.
Try Sutrisno served as Indonesia’s sixth Vice President whilst accompanying President Suharto, specifically from 1993 to 1998. He was born on 15 November 1935 in Surabaya, East Java, and was one of Indonesia’s Vice Presidents with a military background. Try was accepted as a cadet at the Army Engineering Academy (Atekad) in 1956. He had met Suharto during the Operation to Liberate West Irian in 1962.
