The Semarang City Government (Pemkot Semarang) is preparing 1 million litres of clean water aid to address the impacts of drought due to the El Nino phenomenon. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted that this year’s dry season will be drier and longer.

The Head of the Semarang City Local Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Endro P Martanto, stated that the dry season is predicted to hit Semarang starting in early May 2026. He said the dry season is estimated to last until September 2026.

According to Endro, several areas in Semarang are at risk of drought, including Rowosari, Jabungan, Wonosari, and Cepoko. He said that to anticipate drought in various areas, Pemkot Semarang has prepared 1 million litres of clean water aid.

“The BPBD budget allocation (DIPA - Daftar Isian Pelaksanaan Anggaran) for clean water for residents affected by drought is available, 1 million litres,” Endro revealed to Republika on Saturday (11/4/2026).

He explained that the distribution process for the clean water aid will be adjusted according to reports received by Pemkot or BPBD Semarang City. “The mechanism is, BPBD orders from PDAM, which will deliver to the drought location according to needs or reports. One day service,” he said.
