JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The DKI Jakarta DPRD has highlighted several vulnerable railway crossing points that are deemed to require serious attention following the accident between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line in the Bekasi Timur Station area.

A member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD from the PDI Perjuangan Faction, Hardiyanto Kenneth, assessed that safety evaluations should not merely focus on post-incident handling but must address preventive aspects at vulnerable crossing points.

“It is not enough to rely solely on post-incident handling. There must be a comprehensive evaluation from upstream to downstream, including the train journey control system and crossing supervision,” Kenneth told Kompas.com on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

The area in question is said to have high risks if not monitored with an adequate system.

Kenneth also urged the conduct of a transparent investigation to uncover the cause of the accident, while ensuring that preventive measures can be implemented comprehensively.

“The safety of train passengers must be the top priority. This includes updating signalling technology, improving infrastructure quality, and strengthening operational supervision systems,” he said.

“Every potential negligence must be anticipated with a robust system and high discipline from all parties,” Kenneth stated.

He also encouraged strengthening coordination between the central government, local government, and train operators in efforts to prevent future accidents.

On the other hand, Kenneth appreciated the swift work of the SAR team, medical personnel, and all parties involved in the evacuation process and victim handling.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno admitted that there are still level crossings without guards in his region.

He believes that the number of level crossings in Jakarta with official barriers is greater than those without.

However, he emphasised the importance of ensuring whether those crossings are also equipped with guards.
