Details on attorney murder asked for
BOGOR (JP): The Bogor Lawyers Club (BLC) set on Tuesday a two- week deadline for Bogor Police to release details on an investigation into the murder of one of its attorneys, Andi M. Yusuf, whose body was found in a rice field at Kampung Salami, Ciomas subdistrict, on Sunday.
"If the Bogor Police do not handle the case soon, we'll report the case to West Java Police and the National Police," Soleh Amin, the club chairman, said.
Soleh said that the murder was already beyond tolerance, as earlier in March another BLC lawyer, Benget Panangiang, was murdered in Cimahpar, Bogor when the latter was working on a land dispute case.
"Up to now, Benget's case has not yet been solved," he said.
The BLC has established an investigation team to gather facts and data surroundings the death of Andi.
"We'll look into Andi's case and match the leads. Perhaps, there are connections with relatives and business companions, too.
"Later the results will be handed over to the police," Soleh said, adding that the team had met with the Bogor Police chief, asking for a speedy investigation.
Bogor Police chief of detectives First Lt. Santun Marpaung said police were working on the case.
"We don't know the motive of the killing for sure, but from the way he died, it was probably done out of vengeance," he said.
The body of the 36-year-old attorney was found by locals at about 10 p.m. on Sunday, with severe stab wounds to the chest, back, abdomen, hands and neck.
None of his belongings were missing, as the cellular phone, wristwatch, car and car keys were still intact.
Andi's relative, Abdurrahman, told The Jakarta Post that a tall man with dark skin and short hair met Andi earlier on Sunday at about 7:30 p.m., near the latter's house.
BLC secretary John T. Simanjuntak said Andi was working on three land dispute cases. (21/24/edt)

Police burn 2.5 kgs of heroin
JAKARTA (JP): National Police burned on Thursday some 2,497 grams of heroin confiscated from two people at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport last September.
"It is stated clearly in the Criminal Code Procedure that law enforcement agencies are required to destroy any dangerous or poisonous goods seized as soon as we arrest the suspects," said Brig. Gen. James Daniel Sitorus, chief of the narcotics division at the National Police detective corps.
He quoted article 45 of the Criminal Code Procedure and article 53 of Law No. 5/1997 on psychotropic substances.
The law, however, stresses that police or other law enforcement officials have to destroy drugs seven days after they confiscate them.
Customs and excise officials confiscated the heroin on September 21, and arrested 21-year-old Ayu Kusumaety and her 25- year-old brother, Astion Marlim, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 2.62 kilograms of pure heroin into the country.
Both the girl and her brother were passengers of Thai Airways flight 433 from Bangkok. The airplane landed at the airport at 12:30 p.m.
The heroin has a total street value here of some Rp 2 billion (US$250,000).
With 2.497 grams destroyed of the total 2,620 grams confiscated, the remaining was used for three purposes, namely an examination by the National Police forensics laboratories (Puslabfor Polri), for evidence against the suspects in court, and for educational and training purposes of National Police officers in the narcotics division.
