Deputy Minister of Komdigi Emphasises Importance of "Watermark" on AI Products
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister (Wamen) of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) of the Republic of Indonesia, Nezar Patria, has emphasised the importance of watermarks on products or content generated by artificial intelligence (AI) technology or machine intelligence.
Deputy Minister Nezar in Yogyakarta on Friday stated that generative AI can produce photos that are highly realistic, along with voices of people who never actually uttered those words in everyday life, yet are presented in the digital realm.
According to him, watermarks on such artificial intelligence technology products are essential to assist the public, particularly parents and the elderly (lansia), who may not keep up with developments in the current digital technology era.
Moreover, the Deputy Minister said, parents and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to becoming victims of hoaxes (fake news) and disinformation from generative AI products circulating on various social media platforms.
“We know that many of our parents may not follow the process of digital development, and it is somewhat difficult for them to distinguish whether the information products generated in the digital world are true or not,” he said.
The Deputy Minister added that Government Regulation (PP) No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (Tunas) does not target parents.
“The Tunas regulation is specifically dedicated to regulating a healthy digital landscape for children, so it does not target the elderly,” he said.
Regarding developments with the Tunas regulation, the Deputy Minister said the government is continuing to communicate with several tech companies, particularly those operating platforms.
According to him, Komdigi also appreciates their quite collaborative response in adopting the existing regulations in the Tunas regulation, including age restrictions and providing concrete technological solutions.
“Dialogues continue with several tech companies, so that implementation can occur in the near future. We thank Google, Meta, and also TikTok for building good communication in the context of implementing this Tunas regulation,” he said.
