The Depok City Government (Pemkot) in West Java has formally prohibited takbir processions and vehicle convoys on the night preceding Eid al-Fitr 1447 H. The measure has been implemented to prevent potential community tensions and to maintain the security and stability of the region against the threat of street brawls.

The prohibition is detailed in a circular issued by Depok Mayor numbered SE 300/139/Satpol PP/PP/2026 concerning Public Order and Community Safety ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

Depok Mayor Supian Suri emphasised that residents should concentrate takbir activities at their respective places of worship for collective safety. “Takbir processions using vehicles or on foot are not permitted,” Supian stated on Sunday (15/3). He requested that all religious activities on the night of celebration be conducted solemnly within residential areas. Beyond prohibiting convoys, the Depok City Government has also banned the use of firecrackers, which frequently trigger public disorder.

“Takbir activities shall be conducted at mosques or prayer houses in respective neighbourhoods. All residents of Depok City are urged not to set off firecrackers or similar explosives,” he said.

To ensure compliance with these regulations, Depok City Government will deploy combined personnel consisting of the Military (TNI), National Police (Polri), Civil Protection Officers (Satpol PP), and other relevant agencies to conduct large-scale patrols at various high-risk locations. The administration has also instructed district officials, village heads, community leaders, and mosque management councils to proactively educate residents in their respective areas.

“The Depok City Government, together with military, police, and civil protection officers, will conduct field operations to ensure oversight and verify proper implementation of the directive. We ask the community to maintain public order and safety,” the mayor concluded. The police have established intensive communication with various religious leaders and community organisations to ensure the policy is implemented smoothly.
