Communications Minister Emphasises Mothers' Role in Successfully Implementing PP Tunas on Kartini Day
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communications and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasised the importance of the mother’s role in the home in keeping children safe in the digital space, in line with the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP TUNAS).
In addition to focusing on the responsibility of digital platforms to provide safe systems, PP Tunas also highlights the role of mothers as the frontline in protecting families in the digital space.
“This effort to safeguard is indeed closely aligned with the task of mothers to protect the family. Safeguarding means ensuring that children and families are protected,” said Meutya during the Kartini Day Commemoration Ceremony at the Ministry of Komdigi Office, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Meutya stated that women, especially mothers, are encouraged to become drivers of child protection in their respective environments, including by providing alternative activities outside the digital space.
One strength that can be used to provide alternative activities is Indonesia’s local culture, which serves as an important asset in protecting children in the digital era. That culture involves communal living habits and social interactions in the surrounding environment.
Of course, the mother’s role in the home to ensure children’s safety in the digital space will be more complete if fathers are also involved.
This is because the family plays the role of the first fortress in facing internet risks, as the virtual world is equally significant as the real world.
PP Tunas has been implemented since 28 March 2026 and was approved by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto a year earlier.
It is hoped that this regulation can protect the nation’s young successors by providing a safe and comfortable digital space free from cyber threats.
Currently, the government through the Ministry of Communications and Digital is enforcing the regulation specifically against eight digital platforms that automatically fall into the high-risk category.
The eight platforms are TikTok, Roblox, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, and Bigo Live.
Of the eight platforms, it is known that six have fully complied, with the order of compliance starting with X, Bigo Live, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and TikTok.
Meanwhile, Roblox and YouTube have not yet complied with the PP Tunas provisions. YouTube has even been given a sanction in the form of a warning letter because it has not complied with the regulation from the start.
