Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communications and Digital\n(Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasised the importance of the mother\u2019s role\nin the home in keeping children safe in the digital space, in line with\nthe implementation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 on\nthe Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP\nTUNAS).<\/p>\n
In addition to focusing on the responsibility of digital platforms to\nprovide safe systems, PP Tunas also highlights the role of mothers as\nthe frontline in protecting families in the digital space.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis effort to safeguard is indeed closely aligned with the task of\nmothers to protect the family. Safeguarding means ensuring that children\nand families are protected,\u201d said Meutya during the Kartini Day\nCommemoration Ceremony at the Ministry of Komdigi Office, Central\nJakarta, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Meutya stated that women, especially mothers, are encouraged to\nbecome drivers of child protection in their respective environments,\nincluding by providing alternative activities outside the digital\nspace.<\/p>\n
One strength that can be used to provide alternative activities is\nIndonesia\u2019s local culture, which serves as an important asset in\nprotecting children in the digital era. That culture involves communal\nliving habits and social interactions in the surrounding\nenvironment.<\/p>\n
Of course, the mother\u2019s role in the home to ensure children\u2019s safety\nin the digital space will be more complete if fathers are also\ninvolved.<\/p>\n
This is because the family plays the role of the first fortress in\nfacing internet risks, as the virtual world is equally significant as\nthe real world.<\/p>\n
PP Tunas has been implemented since 28 March 2026 and was approved by\nIndonesian President Prabowo Subianto a year earlier.<\/p>\n
It is hoped that this regulation can protect the nation\u2019s young\nsuccessors by providing a safe and comfortable digital space free from\ncyber threats.<\/p>\n
Currently, the government through the Ministry of Communications and\nDigital is enforcing the regulation specifically against eight digital\nplatforms that automatically fall into the high-risk category.<\/p>\n
The eight platforms are TikTok, Roblox, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram,\nThreads, X, and Bigo Live.<\/p>\n
Of the eight platforms, it is known that six have fully complied,\nwith the order of compliance starting with X, Bigo Live, Facebook,\nInstagram, Threads, and TikTok.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Roblox and YouTube have not yet complied with the PP Tunas\nprovisions.
