Civil democracy not working, hurts people

Why do we keep talking about the less than harmonious
relations between the provincial administrators and provincial
legislative councils (DPRD)? Because the people have become the
direct victims.

Just imagine. How can the leaders of provincial
administrations and DPRDs focus their attention on serving the
people when they are so often involved in petty squabbling, only
defending their own narrow points of view or vested interests.

They are neglecting the very people who put them in their
positions as provincial leaders.

Everything that has been happening is inconsistent with a
healthy democracy, and now far beyond control or correction.
Should this condition continue, it would not only lead to poorer
relations between provincial administrators and legislators, but
will adversely affect the people, the nation and the state.
Everyone will suffer because no development programs are being
carried out.

Eventually they, the provincial administrators and
legislators, politicians and political parties, would suffer
because the people's confidence in the political elite and the
process of democracy will deteriorate.

We hope all this does not come to pass, even though it is
certainly headed that way. As for the process of democracy, we
hope all decisions will be made based on good faith dialog.
Democracy should lead to improvements in society, not the other
way around. -- Kompas
