Chinese National Suspected of Misusing Residence Permit Questioned by Immigration in South Sumatra
A Chinese national (WNA) with initials LL (56) has been questioned by the Regional Office of the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Immigration in South Sumatra (Sumsel). LL is suspected of misusing his residence permit in the city of Prabumulih.
“We have received reports from the public regarding the activities of a foreign national at a product distribution warehouse in Prabumulih. Based on initial findings in the field, we discovered discrepancies between the residence permit held and the actual activities carried out by the subject at the location,” explained the Head of the South Sumatra Ditjen Immigration Regional Office, Johannes Fanny.
Johannes explained that, according to immigration data, LL holds a limited stay permit (ITAS) sponsored by PT MDF. LL is registered as the general manager of that company.
However, Johannes continued, the results of the officers’ inspection show that LL has been working and supervising operational activities at CV TJA, a partner company that is not the sponsor, over the past four months.
“Our findings indicate that LL is working for another company that is not his sponsor in Indonesia. Currently, we are delving deeper into the alleged violations committed by LL,” Johannes added.
Johannes explained that his office immediately coordinated with the Provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office of South Sumatra. The coordination was carried out to confirm LL’s employment status.
In immigration supervision records, LL has a history of violations. The violation in question is deportation by the Palembang Immigration Office in 2017.
“The Directorate General of Immigration is committed to continuously enhancing supervision of foreign nationals’ activities in Indonesia and taking firm action against every legal violation,” emphasised the Director General of Immigration of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, Hendarsam Marantoko.
He then emphasised the slogan ‘Immigration for the People’. Enhanced supervision of foreigners, he added, is an important task of Immigration in maintaining Indonesia’s sovereignty.
“In line with the spirit of ‘Immigration for the People’, immigration law enforcement is an important part in maintaining state sovereignty while protecting national interests and providing a sense of security for the community,” Hendarsam concluded.
