JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has ordered the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia to seek supplies of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia.

According to Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel TNI Teddy Indra Wijaya, Russian President Vladimir Putin had already expressed willingness to enhance cooperation on oil and LPG reserves during his meeting with Prabowo in Moscow on Monday (13 April 2026).

“In Moscow, the meeting with President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed the enhancement of long-term national energy supply cooperation, including crude oil and LPG reserves,” Teddy wrote on the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account on Wednesday (15 April 2026).

“President Prabowo has tasked Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia to meet with President Putin’s special envoy and the Russian Minister of Energy for further detailed discussions today in Moscow,” he continued.

“And of course, long-term economic investments,” Teddy added.

Teddy stated that Russia and France are superpower nations.

Moreover, both countries are permanent members of the UN Security Council with veto power, as well as the largest producers of natural resources in the world.

“With significant and concrete results for Indonesia,” Teddy emphasised.

During the same working visit, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia stated that Indonesia will obtain supplies of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia.

Bahlil said that in a forum with Sergey, both parties discussed concrete opportunities for energy cooperation that can be immediately followed up, particularly the certainty of fuel oil (BBM) and LPG supplies.

Russia expressed readiness to support Indonesia’s energy resilience, including one aspect of oil and natural gas supplies as well as storage.

“Alhamdulillah, what has been agreed upon has yielded quite good results where we can obtain crude reserves to add to ours. In addition, we will also be able to obtain LPG,” Bahlil said, quoted from an official statement on Tuesday (14 April 2026).

According to Bahlil, the cooperation on procuring oil and LPG is being explored through government-to-government (G2G) or business-to-business (B2B) schemes.

This scheme is expected to provide certainty regarding the availability of national energy reserves, particularly for crude oil and LPG in Indonesia.
