Padang (ANTARA) — PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) has provided credit relief to 2,718 debtors affected by a disaster in West Sumatra (Sumatra Barat, Sumbar) as part of the bank’s commitment to its customers who have become victims of the disaster.

The relief is offered in the form of credit restructuring, namely a postponement of loan repayments for debtors affected by the disaster, said Sudaryanto, Head of BTN Padang City Branch, in Padang, on Wednesday.

He said the relief is not based on the level of damage to the house occupied, but on debtors who experience financial difficulties following the flash flood that occurred at the end of November 2025.

“We are providing this policy for one year. After the credit restructuring ends, debtors will resume paying instalments as before,” he explained.

He noted that the housing affected by the Sumbar disaster are in several areas, including Padang City, Padang Pariaman Regency and Solok Regency, with total outstanding credit reaching Rp233 billion.

Regarding BTN’s most affected housing, he cited Abi Lubuk Minturun Housing, Hanshela Housing and Banda Cino Housing. In general, BTN has moved quickly in disaster response by providing direct assistance to the affected housing.

Assistance to disaster-affected residents is distributed through the West Sumatra Provincial Government, and the regencies and cities including Padang, Pariaman, Solok, Agam and Tanah Datar.

Additionally, the assistance is channelled through educational institutions, including Padang State University (Universitas Negeri Padang), Andalas University and several private campuses in Padang.

Meanwhile, Sofia Risa, one BTN Padang customer and a flood survivor, said she has received assistance in the form of a one-year postponement of repayments on a subsidised home loan.

“Alhamdulillah, there is a postponement of home loan repayments for one year,” she said.

With this policy, she says she and her husband can focus on repairing their warung (small stall) business affected by the flash flood, as well as for the education costs of their two children.
