The One, another option for fashionable sushi

Evi Mariani The Jakarta Post/Jakarta

The One restaurant offers a comprehensive menu of modern Japanese fusion cooking and is another fashionable option for sushi lovers in the capital.

Boasting 15 kinds of sushi; from shrimp tempura rolls to crown kani rolls with Alaskan king crab meat, the restaurant also allows diners to request special hand-rolled sushi of their choice.

"We are offering a promotion program especially for sushi. Every Thursday this month, we are offering a 50 percent discount on all sushi," co-owner Etty Febbe said. The One was likely to extend the promotion, she said.

Sushi prices range from Rp 45,000 (US$5) to Rp 78,000 for an eight-piece helping.

Besides ordering a la carte sushi in a lounge-style setting with cozy couches, diners can choose from a selection at the bar on the first floor.

Other Japanese dishes on the menu are sashimi, a variety of salads, noodles, tempura and vegetarian food like garlic shitake tofu.

The One also boasts Korean dishes -- e mul tang (mixed seafood with light spicy broth sauce and vegetable) -- European food like Cajun seared salmon (fresh Norwegian salmon baked rare with Cajun seasoning), and American food like the NY Strip (U.S. choice strip loin glazed with teriyaki sauce).

From the outside, the restaurant, which can accommodate up to 150 diners, looks exactly like a private house.

"We will have the grand opening ceremony in the middle of this year," operations manager Evy Mayouri, said.

She added that the restaurant had delayed the grand opening due to "technical problems", which she would not explain.

"Moreover, we are also planning to make some changes. So we think we'd better open to the public (officially) when the changes have been completed," Mayouri said.

She said the restaurant would have a more extensive sushi bar on the first floor and another beverage bar on the second floor.

The most asked-for dishes included the hot tiger shrimp salad (sauteed tiger shrimp with garlic and lemon sauce), fillet de monte (beef tataki-style with lime marinated sauce), baked oyster, crispy spinach, Japanese fried rice and sashimi special assortment, she said.

The price of dishes on the a la carte menu ranges between Rp 10,000 for two pieces of tempura and Rp 135,000 for fillet mignon.
