Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Amarulla Octavian, has highlighted the need to evaluate the implementation of new technologies in various contexts of global agricultural systems, particularly in addressing the challenges of climate change.

“We are moving closer towards the reality of our mission, which is to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and actionable policies, while generating measurable social and economic impacts,” Amarulla stated in a press release in Jakarta on Monday.

To this end, BRIN has officially joined the partnership of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (LEAP) Partnership.

Amarulla assessed this as an important milestone that strengthens the use of transparent and globally standardised science-based metrics in measuring the environmental footprint of livestock supply chains.

“This commitment will enhance accountability and harmonisation in measuring the environmental impact of the livestock sector,” he continued.

Looking ahead, he hopes that the collaboration built within this forum will not stop at meetings alone, but will continue into concrete partnerships that can drive resilient and climate-smart food systems.

“We want a future where smallholder farmers have access to technology and resources to thrive, as well as food systems capable of withstanding the pressures of climate change,” he said.

Amarulla emphasised the importance of global cooperation in transforming the livestock industry into a system that not only meets the world’s food needs but also preserves the environment for future generations.
