Bogor Residents Queue from Dawn for Two Consecutive Days to Exchange Eid Money
Bogor residents have been willing to queue from dawn and even in the early morning hours to exchange money at the Balkot Ramadan Fest 2026 held in the courtyard of Bogor City Library.
The event was originally scheduled from Thursday (12 March 2026) to Saturday (14 March 2026). However, due to a disturbance on Thursday morning, the event only took place on Friday (13 March 2026).
The money exchange quota for Friday was set at 200 people.
Andika, who obtained an early queue number, failed to exchange money due to a scuffle that caused the event to close before his turn came.
“Yesterday we arrived just before 3 o’clock but there was a clash in the queue in front of the library and at City Hall,” Andika told Kompas.com on Friday.
Undeterred, Andika returned to Balkot Ramadan Fest 2026 to exchange money on Friday at 03.00 am.
“At 3 in the morning, I managed to have breakfast at a food stall beforehand,” Andika explained.
Andika was determined to exchange money to distribute to cousins and nephews during Eid.
“I’ll give it to relatives, probably in 10,000 and 5,000 rupiah denominations, limited to 200 notes,” he said.
Another resident, Dina (29) from Malabar, also came in the early morning two consecutive days in order to queue for money exchange.
“Yesterday I came after breakfast at 3 o’clock, then because I went home first and came back again at half past 7, it was already very crowded, and at 8 o’clock there was chaos,” she explained.
“I’ll give it to my nephews, 10,000 and 5,000 rupiah, 200 notes,” she said.
Previously, it was reported that a disturbance occurred during the new banknote exchange at the courtyard of Bogor City Library, West Java, on Thursday (12 March 2026). Residents who had queued from dawn were asked to leave.
According to Kompas.com observations on site, residents queuing to exchange money became involved in a verbal altercation with security personnel on duty. Security appeared to be attempting to control the situation and restore normal conditions. However, the cash exchange vehicle from one of the banks suddenly left the Bogor City Library courtyard.
