Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Narcotics Board (BNN) has conducted the destruction of narcotics evidence totalling 34.21 kilograms obtained from the investigation of nine cases at airports and a clandestine drug laboratory in Bali and Jakarta, Tuesday.

Acting Deputy for Drug Enforcement at BNN, Brigadier General Roy Hardi Siahaan, stated that the investigation involved nine cases with 13 suspects. “The actions undertaken by the BNN team represent the Indonesian government’s commitment to combating drug trafficking throughout the country, both through air routes and borders, given the increasingly complex modus operandi of international drug networks entering Indonesia,” said Brigadier General Roy at a press conference regarding the destruction of the narcotics evidence.

He detailed the evidence destroyed, comprising 27.73 kilograms of methamphetamine; 1.83 kilograms of ecstasy (3,916 tablets); 0.64 kilograms of solid mephedrone; 7,247 millilitres of liquid mephedrone; 24,722 millilitres of liquid precursor; 4 kilograms of solid chemical substances; and 198,129 millilitres of liquid chemical substances.

Roy stated that the evidence destroyed by BNN was largely obtained through detection at air routes coordinated by the BNN team with Customs and Excise officials at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten. From the operation, 11 individuals were apprehended whilst transporting methamphetamine from Sumatra Island to eastern Indonesia regions including Lombok and Sulawesi.

Roy noted that BNN continues to implement various prevention and enforcement efforts to create a society free from narcotics influence. In this regard, BNN has appealed to all segments of society to actively participate in combating drugs, starting from protecting the family and community environment, supporting anti-narcotics education programmes, and reporting any indication of drug abuse and illegal trafficking through official channels, including contacting the emergency hotline 184.

According to him, with public participation, the war against drugs will be more effective, advancing towards a Drug-Free Indonesia (Bersinar).
