BNN Arrests TNI Soldier Linked to Aceh–Bogor Drug Network
The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on Tuesday (19 May) uncovered a drug distribution network for methamphetamine, known as the Aceh–Bogor network, involving a member of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in the Bogor area, West Java. Acting Deputy for Criminal Prevention and Eradication Roy Siahaan, Brigadier General, said the breakthrough resulted from patrols around 04:00 local time against a suspicious vehicle in Bogor, in the Saber Bersinar operation.
‘The suspects are three people, consisting of two civilians and one TNI member,’ he told reporters on Tuesday. He explained that during the patrol officers saw a white Mitsubishi Pajero passing by. The vehicle was stopped and searched. Upon examination, three people were found inside the car, including a TNI soldier.
‘This person is indeed a TNI member. His involvement is that he was directly inside the Pajero at the time. Therefore we conclude that he is a distributor,’ he said. ‘In other words, the person knew that the drugs were kept there. So it is not about whether he is a user or not, because we have confirmed that the person is a distributor, bringing the drugs from Aceh, via South Sumatra, then through Belapori to Bogor. And we managed to arrest him in Bogor.’
From the search, officers found dozens of packets of methamphetamine weighing 29 kilograms in Chinese tea packaging stored in the rear compartment of the vehicle. The dozens of kilograms of meth were believed to be circulated in the Jabodetabek region.
Roy said the three suspects and the evidence would be taken for further examination and case development. He noted that BNN had coordinated with the TNI Military Police (POM TNI) regarding legal processes for the soldier.
Separately, Roy said, in total 31 suspects had been arrested across various parts of Indonesia during the Saber Bersinar operation. Additionally, seizures included 136.5 kilograms of meth, 147 kilograms of cannabis, 1,260 milliliters of etomidate, 1,029 grams of ketamine and 6,681 ecstasy tablets.
