Jakarta — Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has cautioned the public to remain vigilant regarding potential rainfall of varying intensities across several regions of Indonesia on Tuesday.

BMKG forecaster Adelia, speaking during a weather briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday, indicated that western Indonesia is expected to be dominated by light rain to heavy cloud cover, whilst several cities face the risk of thunderstorms.

“For western Indonesia, there is potential for thunderstorms in the Palembang region,” Adelia stated.

Additionally, Adelia noted that light rainfall is forecast across the majority of Sumatran regions. She also predicted cloudy to heavily overcast conditions in several cities across Sumatra and Java including Banda Aceh, Tanjung Pinang, Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta.

“Then there is potential for light rain in Serang, Semarang, and Surabaya,” she said.

Meanwhile, in Kalimantan, BMKG warned of potential rainfall with higher intensity in several areas such as Pontianak and Banjarmasin, extending to moderate rain in Palangkaraya.

In the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, weather conditions are forecast to be relatively milder with potential light to moderate rainfall such as in Denpasar and Mataram.

For Sulawesi, moderate rainfall is forecast in several cities. “For eastern Indonesia, there is potential for moderate rain in Mamuju and Kendari,” she said.

Meanwhile, light rainfall is expected across most other Sulawesi regions.

In Maluku and Papua, BMKG also warned of potential light to moderate rainfall. “There is potential for moderate rain in Kupang, Nabire, and Merauke, as well as potential heavy cloud cover in Ternate,” she stated.
