The Directorate of Specific Criminal Acts (Dittipidter) of Bareskrim Polri has uncovered 755 cases of misuse of subsidised fuel (BBM) and LPG throughout 2025-2026. These illegal practices are suspected to have caused losses to the state amounting to Rp 1.26 trillion.

“Criminal acts involving the misuse of subsidised BBM and LPG have resulted in potential state financial leakages reaching Rp 1,266,260,963,200,” said Deputy Chief of Bareskrim Polri Irjen Nunung Syarifuddin during a press conference at the Bhayangkara Field of National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

He stated that the state losses due to the misuse of subsidised BBM are estimated at around Rp 516.8 billion. Meanwhile, losses from the misuse of subsidised LPG are estimated at around Rp 749.2 billion.

“With details of state losses from the misuse of subsidised BBM amounting to Rp 516,812,530,200 and from subsidised LPG around Rp 749,294,400,000,” he said.

Nunung noted that these figures demonstrate the significant impact of deviations in the distribution of subsidised energy. He said that subsidised energy should be utilised by those in need.

“This is a quite significant figure that should allow subsidies for these subsidised goods to be utilised or received by the underprivileged, but they are being misused,” he stated.

Nunung explained that the high rate of misuse is partly due to the price difference between subsidised BBM and LPG and their non-subsidised counterparts. He said that this price gap provides an opportunity for suspects to gain personal profits.

“Due to the enticing profits, the price difference between subsidised and non-subsidised items is quite high, so irresponsible individuals exploit this price advantage to seek personal gains,” he said.

He added that Polri is taking steps to maintain the stability of energy distribution, including securing the distribution routes for subsidised BBM and LPG. Nunung emphasised that law enforcement against the misuse of subsidised fuel is aimed at preventing state losses and providing a deterrent effect for perpetrators.

“This step is a preventive measure to prevent disruptions to public order and security that could lead to an energy crisis,” he said.

“My final statement to the perpetrators: if you dare, I will crack down. We are not playing around. The current situation is not good. If you still dare to commit deviations in the distribution of subsidised goods in the form of BBM and LPG, we will take firm and decisive action. Therefore, stop immediately,” Nunung continued.

Previously, Bareskrim Polri uncovered 755 crime scenes (TKP) involving the misuse of fuel (BBM) and subsidised LPG from 2025 until April 2026. In total, 672 suspects were arrested by Bareskrim Polri.
