Observing developments in the geopolitical situation in the Middle East region, which has resulted in flight cancellations, rescheduling, and route changes due to conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran, the Association of Muslim Umrah Organisers of the Republic of Indonesia (AMPHURI) has urged all members of Umrah Travel Operators (PPIU) to take appropriate measures.

“One of these is to conduct intensive communication with airlines to obtain the latest information regarding the status of pilgrim flights before departure to the airport,” said AMPHURI Secretary-General Zaky Zakaria Anshary to Media Indonesia on Sunday, 1 March.

Furthermore, he also requested that operators promptly inform pilgrims of any schedule changes, delays, route diversions, or flight cancellations so that pilgrims can understand the situation unfolding.

PPIU operators must also ensure that pilgrim services and comfort are maintained, including the provision of accommodation, food and beverage, local transportation, and support during flight delays both in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

“Then prepare mitigation measures and contingency plans in case of prolonged delays or operational flight changes that affect pilgrim travel schedules,” he stated.

PPIU operators must also actively coordinate with the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, and relevant authorities to ensure the safety and smooth travel of umrah pilgrims.

Subsequently, provide maximum support to pilgrims, including maintaining calm and offering clear explanations so that pilgrims continue to feel safe and comfortable.

“PPIU operators must also monitor international developments and aviation policies regularly through airlines, airport authorities, and the government. Finally, prioritise pilgrim safety and security as the top priority in every operational decision regarding travel. Therefore, umrah pilgrims who will depart or who are already in the Holy Land are asked to understand should there be any changes or delays to the programme,” he explained.

Zaky hopes that all AMPHURI members can take anticipatory and responsive measures to maintain the quality of service and security for Indonesian umrah pilgrims.

“Hopefully this situation improves soon and the entire pilgrimage programme for pilgrims can proceed smoothly,” he concluded.
