The number of suspected measles cases in Cianjur Regency, West Java, has reached 804. These cases were reported by primary health facilities through the Early Warning and Response System (SKDR) application over the period from January to March this year.

The Head of Disease Control and Prevention at the Cianjur Regency Health Office, Javed Sumawe Mataputung, explained that as of week 12 this year, 804 suspected measles cases have been recorded. Of these, there are 4 suspected cases.

“To confirm positivity, we sent 4 samples from suspects or those suspected of measles. So, to confirm whether it is positive for measles or not, in addition to observing clinical symptoms, it must also be confirmed by laboratory test results,” he said on Monday (6/4).

According to laboratory test results, one sample was declared positive for measles. Meanwhile, the other three samples were negative.

“Looking at the trend analysis of cases based on SKDR, there was a fairly high increase in the second and third weeks. However, the number of cases has stabilised entering weeks 9 to 12,” he added.

Javed explained that the one positive individual was known not to have received measles immunisation or vaccination. In fact, health services at the community health centre level, auxiliary health centres, and integrated health posts have provided immunisation services so far.

“There are 48 community health centres in Cianjur Regency. All of them provide immunisation services, including other health facilities such as auxiliary health centres or integrated health posts,” he stressed.

However, he continued, immunisation ultimately depends on public awareness. Therefore, the Cianjur Regency Health Office continues to educate and socialise the importance of immunisation from an early age.

“For now, we continue to prioritise outreach and education efforts, especially at the community health centre and hospital levels,” he concluded.
