Indonesia 4th biggest air polluter
Amy Chew reporting from Jakarta THE massive fires from Indonesian peatland have resulted in the country being ranked the fourth largest emitter of greenhouse gases. It is ranked behind the United States, China and Russia, according to a report by international environmental groups. Indonesia is calculated to release two billion tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum, mostly from the burning of peatland, which is responsible for the choking haze that blankets the region during the dry season.

RI removed from USTR`s IPR priority watch list
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced on Monday (Nov 6) it had moved Indonesia from its IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) Priority Watch List to its Watch List through its Special 301 review which examines the effectiveness of IPR protection in countries around the world, an official report said. "We are encouraged by the steps that Indonesia has taken to improve enforcement of intellectual property rights," USTR Susan C.

SBY: Anti-smuggling efforts won't disrupt goods flow
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed all officials at the customs and excise directorate general to always coordinate their anti-smuggling efforts with the headquarters of the country`s military, police and the Attorney General`s Office.

Pro-Investment Policy Still Doubted
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Investors who attended the Indonesia Infrastructure Conference & Exhibition (IICE) 2006 remain doubtful over the government’s pro-investment policy. According to Hisnu Pawenang, Head of the Agency for Supervising Toll Roads (BJPT) at the Department of Public Works, this doubt was the foremost during the three-day event last week. “Doubts exist, especially concerning implementation at a grass roots level,” said Diak yesterday (11/5) in Jakarta.

Protests greet Batam's new port
At least a 100 people rallied to protest Batam's controversial new international port that opened Sunday because they feared the new facility would cost them their jobs. The director of sea transportation at the Transportation Ministry, Jimmy Nikijulu told The Jakarta Post said the ministry issued PT Citra Tritunas a permit to operate the Harbor Bay Port in Batu Ampar to help develop the region.

Mobile-8 sets IPO price range rp200-400
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Bimantara Citra's unit PT Mobile-8 has set a price range of 200-240 rupiah per share for its planned initial public offering (IPO) of 3.9 bln shares, said Wishnu Handoyono, president of Bhakti Securities, the underwriter of the IPO. The IPO stock represents 19.91 pct of the firm's enlarged capital.
