Miss Universe Likes Batik
TEMPO Interactive, YOGYAKARTA:Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopez arrived in Yogyakarta yesterday accompanied by Miss Indonesia 2010, Nadine Alexandra, and Miss Environment 2010, Reza Kartikasari. The group went straight to Prambanan Temple. "Before I came here, I only knew that Indonesia was a country in Asia and about batik," Leila said at the Sheraton Mustika Hotel in Yogyakarta. The Angolan native praised batik and said she would wear it when she crowns the new Miss Indonesia on October 7.

Investor Summit Opened Today
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Investor Summit and Capital Market Expo will be held on October 5-6. This is the sixth time the event is being held by the Indonesian Stock Exchange and it will be attended by 28 companies. "The theme is Investing in Capital Markets: A Journey for a Better Future," said CEO Ito Warsito in a press conference yesterday. The event is expected to attract investment in the capital market. Some 2,000 local and international investors will attend the event.

Govt to exempt oil, gas exploration equipment from VAT
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government is drafting a regulation that will exempt the import of upstream oil and gas exploration equipment from value added tax, an official said. Director General of Oil and Gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Evita Legowo said on Wednesday the new rule would give certainty to oil and gas investors about the investment climate in the country. "The new regulation will replace the government regulation on government-borne value added tax," she said.

Astra Plans $1.5b Push in 2012
By:Faisal Maliki Baskoro Astra International, the largest automotive retailer in Indonesia, plans to spend $1.5 billion next year on expansion, including an aggressive push into infrastructure, a company executive said on Wednesday. Gunawan Geniusahardja, a director of Astra, said about 40 percent of the spending would be used for infrastructure projects.
