Manpower minister promises to rearrange outsourcing system

Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Muhaimin Iskandar promised on Monday to rearrange existing outsourcing work contract system because the system was considered to cause losses on the part of the workers. “There will be several aspects to be rearranged with regard to the outsourcing system, like the rearrangement of the regulations, supervision for the implementation of the outsourcing system and training courses for the workers,” the minister said.

Japan to Build Biofuel Plant in East Java

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Japan has pledged a US$16 million assistance in form of machinery, equipments, and working capital for Indonesia to develop biofuel production of byproducts from sugar industry in the country, the Industry Department said, which is expected to pave way for a similar investment in palm oil byproducts.

Maluku Expo serves as investment gate

Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - The Maluku Expo 2010 will benefit Maluku province and could serve as a gate for the entry of investment for its economic development, a vice minister said. "The presence of 169 handicraft product stands in the Maluku Expo arena is proof the rapid growth of industries in this province," Vice Minister for Industrial Affairs Aleks Retraubun said over the weekend.

Lampung`s seaweed exports down

Bandarlampung (ANTARA News) - Lampung province`s seaweed exports over the past six months were recorded at US$6,225 only with a volume of 34.86 tons. "The seaweed exports declined both in term of values or volumes respectively by 94.12 percent and 59.03 percent," head of the local trade and industry service Agus Salim said here on Sunday. He said that Lampung`s seaweed exports were recorded at US$105,820 in the first semester of 2009 with a volume of 85.08 tons.

Bali exports 7.1 tons of coffee

Bali`s Chief Regional Government Spokesman I Ketut Teneng said here on Sunday that the January-May 2010 coffee exports were sightly higher than those exported in the same period in the previous year.

Indonesia exports down 2.87 pct in June

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s exports in June 2010 fell 2.87 percent to US$12.29 billion from a month ago on a decline in oil and gas exports, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said. However, compared to the same period last year, Indonesia`s exports in June 2010 rose 31.04 percent, BPS Chief Rusman Heriawan said here on Monday. Non-oil/non-gas exports in June 2010 slightly rose 1.02 percent from a month earlier, he said.

Tourist arrivals up 14 pct

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - More than 3.38 million foreign tourists visited Indonesia in the first half of 2010, up 14 percent from the same period last year, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said. In June 2010 alone, more than 613.4 thousand foreign tourists visited the country, an 11.41 percent increase compared to the same period last year, BPS Chief Rusman Heriawan said here on Monday. Compared to May, the number of tourist arrivals in June slightly rose 2.23 percent, he said.

Auto industry grows 26.15 pct in second quarter

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s auto industry grew 26.15 percent in the second quarter oF 2010 compared to the first quarter, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The auto industry`s growth in the second quarter of 2010 was higher than the average growth of medium and big industries year-on-year in the first quarter of 2009 which reached 4.27 percent, BPS head Rusman Heriawan said at a press conference here on Monday.

Rupiah Blamed for Slowdown In Exports

The country’s exports for June slowed partly as a result of the stronger rupiah and a fall in some commodity prices, analysts have said. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced on Monday that exports for June were worth $12.29 billion, a 31 percent increase year-on-year. That was compared to May’s $12.66 billion, which was a rise of 37.4 percent year-on-year.

Trade With Malaysia Bouncing Back To Pre-Crisis Levels, Minister Says

Jakarta. Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu is optimistic two-way trade with Malaysia will rebound to $15 billion this year - its level before the global financial crisis - thanks to strong commodity prices and the improving economies of both countries. Mari was speaking on Monday after meeting her Malaysian counterpart, Dato Sri Mustapa Mohamed, in Jakarta. She said that before the financial crisis and its devastating impact on trade, two-way trade had been $15.3 billion.
