Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Muhaimin Iskandar promised on Monday to rearrange existing outsourcing work contract system because the system was considered to cause losses on the part of the workers.

“There will be several aspects to be rearranged with regard to the outsourcing system, like the rearrangement of the regulations, supervision for the implementation of the outsourcing system and training courses for the workers,” the minister said.

Muhaimin made the remarks at the opening of the fourth grand congress of the Indonesian Muslim Workers Union (Sarbumusi) at Wisma Karya Jasa Ciloto in Cianjur, West Java.

The minister said that his ministry would put into order illegal outsourcing companies, which had no capacity to recruit workers under the outsourcing system.

“Putting the regulations into order is important as it deals with welfare assurance for the workers, especially those employed under the outsourcing system. It is also vital because it also includes assurance of balance during the working hours,” Muhaimin said as quoted by the Antara news agency.

Even though the number of supervisors at the manpower and transmigration ministry was limited, Muhaimin said, he was committed to give priority to the fate of the workers. “We will conduct tight supervision simultaneously and continuously,” he said.

He further said that his ministry would also provide training courses to improve the capability and skills of the workers to enable them to have better bargaining power with their employers.
