Government Discuss Improvement Plans for Jakarta Seaport

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Vice President Boediono held a meeting today with cabinet member, offcials to discuss plan to expand Jakarta's main seaport Tanjung Priok. The plan which sparked a deadly clash at the port in April due to the presence of a tomb of an islamic cleric inside the port complex.

Upgrade of Indonesia's credit rating to help lure investment

JAKARTA, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The rise of Indonesia's credit rating by Moody investor rating from stable to positive on Monday has smoothed the government efforts to attract more investment. Indonesian Central Bank Deputy Governor Hartadi Sarwono has said that the increasing grade rating provides more positive outlook to the country's economy. "The improving outlook shows that Indonesia has a well- preserved macro economic fundamentals and reducing debt ratio.

Trade Minister: RI may take advantage of CAFTA

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of Trade Mari Elka Pangestu said Indonesia is currently in a very good condition to take advantage of the implementation of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). "We need to build power. I believe we will be able to make adjustments and compete for a gain," she said during an oration on entrepreneurship and CAFTA in Jakarta Monday night.

Saudi investment in Indonesia reaches $8 billion

Mamuju, W Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The Saudi government has invested around US$8 billion in Indonesia since the two governments established cooperation 50 years ago, a spokesman said. The Saudi government invested US$2 billion in Indonesia in the early days of the cooperation, spokesman for the Saudi Embassy in Indonesia Ahmad Ali Kattonah said here on Monday. "The increase in investment was the result of good bilateral cooperation particularly in the economic field," he said.

Govt wants five fully-developed economic zones by 2014

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government expects Indonesia to have at least five fully-developed special economic zones (KEK) by 2014, a minister said. "Our priority is, up to 2014, there should be at least five (developed) special economic zones," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa said at his office here Tuesday after chairing a coordinating meeting on special economic zones.
