TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Vice President Boediono held a meeting today with cabinet member, offcials to discuss plan to expand Jakarta's main seaport Tanjung Priok. The plan which sparked a deadly clash at the port in April due to the presence of a tomb of an islamic cleric inside the port complex.
Vice Presidential Spokesman Yopie Hidayat said today (22/6) one of the important issues to be discussed is to find the best lay out that will improve customs administration services the will speed up the flow of ship movement.
Yopie said the average dwelling/idle time at the port now is about 5.5 days, way above the 1.5 day-standard for international ports. He said improving service/operation time “is not just about expanding the port capacity, but it is also related with process.”
Several ministers and officials invited to the meeting are Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo, and senior staffs with the port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia, representatives from the National Police, and the military. The port was built next to the headquarters of the Navy's Western Fleet Command (Komando Armada Barat.
In April at least five public order officers killed in a deadly clash with islamic community around the port who rejected plan to relocate the tomb of an islamic cleric inside the complex.
