Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of Trade Mari Elka Pangestu said Indonesia is currently in a very good condition to take advantage of the implementation of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA).

"We need to build power. I believe we will be able to make adjustments and compete for a gain," she said during an oration on entrepreneurship and CAFTA in Jakarta Monday night.

She said Indonesia`s imports from China had increased from 10 percent to 17 percent in the last five years, but most of the imported goods consisted of capital goods and intermediate products.

Indonesia, she added, also has a productive work force and creative workers in a big amount with a low movable level which is very effective considered by foreign investors.

In the meantime on the great number of cheap goods from China which may threaten the sustainability of the small and medium industry in Indonesia, Mari said a similar thing was also faced by some other countries in the world.

She also said the government is also trying to make sure that all goods coming to Indonesia from China meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) and domestic security standards. (*)
