Growth Lies With Young Indonesian Consumers, Nielsen

Jakarta. With positive signs mounting in Indonesia, research company Nielsen believes the country will become increasingly competitive in the next few years. Catherine Eddy, managing director of Nielsen Indonesia, cited some of those signs on Thursday at an event in Jakarta. Among them were increasing buying power, a per capita income expected to reach $3,000 and estimated economic growth of 6.2 percent next year.

Rp 1.5t for land acquisition in airport train project

The government announced it has allocated Rp 1.5 trillion (US$ 166.5 billion) for land acquisition in the project to build a railway line to Jakarta’s international airport. “The bid [for the project] will be held after the land acquisition is completed,” Tundjung Inderawan, director general of railway transportation at the Transportation Ministry, said in Jakarta.

Indonesia, Japan to Build MRT Soon

VIVAnews - The Indonesian government collaborates with Japan in constructing Metropolitan Priority Area (MPA) of which projects include Mass Rapid Transit (MRT). "The first development is on the MRT while the next projects will be on harbors and airports," said Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Rajasa, in Nusa Dua, Bali, today, Dec 10. Hatta believes the projects will be completed in 2020.

RI, S Korea agree to double bilateral trade

Nusa, Dua, Bali (ANTARA News) - Indonesia and South Korea have agreed to double their bilateral trade over the next five years. The agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his South Korean counterpart Lee Myung-Bak on the sidelines of the Bali Democracy Forum here on Thursday. Trade between the two countries was at present recorded at around US$20 billion and it was hoped it could be increased to US$40 billion over the next five years.

KPK Establishes Integrity Zone

TEMPO Interactive, Semarang:The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Semarang Municipality have established an integrity zone in Semarang as a form of commitment to ensure fast, easy, friendly, and illegal levy-free services. This is done by cutting down the time to process documents, ID cards, and license to construct buildings. “It normally takes 15 days to process the licenses, we now cut it to 10 days,” said Semarang Mayor Soemarmo at Hotel Novotel Semarang yesterday.

Electricity Infrastructure Needs Rp100 Trillion in Investment

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Emy Perdanahari, the Electricity Program director from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, said it requires at least US$ 11,4 billion per year to develop electricity infrastructure in Indonesia. Until 2029, she said, the funds will be needed to build power generators, transmission networks, main transformers, and a national distribution network.
