The government announced it has allocated Rp 1.5 trillion (US$ 166.5 billion) for land acquisition in the project to build a railway line to Jakarta’s international airport.

“The bid [for the project] will be held after the land acquisition is completed,” Tundjung Inderawan, director general of railway transportation at the Transportation Ministry, said in Jakarta.

The government plans to construct a railway line connecting Mangarai Station in South Jakarta to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.

Tundjung said the government would disburse the funds in installments.

“This year, the government will disburse Rp 450 billion, while it will disburse Rp 600 billion next year,” he said.

The remainder of the money will be disbursed by the end of 2012.

He said his directorate general had set up a working group for the project.
