Govt to focus on fishery diversification

The Jakarta Post, JAKARTA The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries plans to increase the volume of processed fishery product exports up to 25 percent of total fisheries production in order to increase the value of exports. The ministry’s director of foreign marketing Saut P. Hutagalung said on Thursday that the large increase, from 7 to 8 percent previously, would also be followed by diversification of export markets.

Following the enactment of the new mining law, the government is drafting a regulation which will give special treatment for state enterprises. “We will regulate the status of the state enterprises in the government regulation. Riau Gets Ready Five Ports

TEMPO Interactive, Batam:Five ports around Batam, Bintan and Karimun are being spruced up following the plan to establish a free trade and port zones for certain products. Riau Industry and Trade Office chief Jon Arizal said the ports include Batu Ampar, Sekupang and Kabil. There will also be 91 specially-designated ports. However, only 30 companies have obtained the license to operate them. As of February 20, Batam, Bintan, and Karimun will be included in the free trade zone.

M`sia plans on exporting electricity to Sumatra

Putrajaya (ANTARA News/Bernama) -- The Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications is planning to export electricity power of up to 45 percent from the government`s reserves margin to Sumatra, Indonesia in the near future. Its Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor said the move was in view of the high demand for electricity in the republic. It will also help Malaysia to reduce its reserves margin which is still at a very high level.

Ministry proposes low duty on imported raw materials of textiles

Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The Industry Ministry has proposed a cut in duty on the import of raw materials of textiles to increase the competitive edge of the commodity. "It is true we have proposed a cut in duty on the import of raw materials of textile products which have strong market such as batik," Industry Minister Fahmi Idris said at a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI here on Thursday.
