Ministry proposes low duty on imported raw materials of textiles
Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The Industry Ministry has proposed a cut in duty on the import of raw materials of textiles to increase the competitive edge of the commodity.
"It is true we have proposed a cut in duty on the import of raw materials of textile products which have strong market such as batik," Industry Minister Fahmi Idris said at a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI here on Thursday.
He said Indonesia`s textile products which had good competitiveness in the global market were among the commodities affected by the current global financial crisis.
"So, it is necessary to seek a solution to the matter. And lowering duty on the import of raw materials is one of the solutions," he said.
Textiles and textile products are one of the country`s main foreign exchange earners.(*)
