Zulhas Assures Indonesia's Food Stock Secure Despite US-Iran Conflict: We Do Not Import from There
Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, commonly known as Zulhas, has assured the public that Indonesia’s national food stocks remain in a safe condition despite escalating conflict in the Middle East, particularly between the United States and Israel against Iran.
He stated that Indonesia does not import food from the Middle East, therefore the conflict does not affect the nation’s food security situation.
“Everything is secure even though there is war in the Middle East; our food is unaffected because we do not import food from the Middle East,” Zulhas told reporters at the PAN Party headquarters office in South Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Zulhas noted that commodities such as rice, maize and fish have already achieved self-sufficiency or are fulfilled through domestic production.
“We are self-sufficient in rice, self-sufficient in maize, poultry and fish. What we do import is wheat, but wheat does not come from the Middle East but rather from Europe and Canada,” he said.
Furthermore, Zulhas called on all members of the public not to panic. He emphasised that national food stocks are in a secure condition for a period of one year.
“It is sufficient for one year,” concluded Zulhas, who also serves as General Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN).
