Jakarta, 9 March 2026 — The Jakarta Provincial Government has temporarily closed Zone 4A at the Bantargebang Final Waste Disposal Site (TPST) following a landslide that killed four people on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that waste management operations have been diverted to Zone 3, whilst deliveries of waste to TPST Bantargebang have been minimised.

“As a mitigation measure, services in Zone 4A have been temporarily suspended. Waste deliveries to TPST Bantargebang have been minimised, with operations being redirected to Zone 3,” Pramono stated at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, 9 March 2026.

“Two new temporary disposal sites are being prepared whilst cleanup operations are conducted,” he added.

Pramono explained that this measure has been taken to ensure the recovery process at the landslide area can proceed optimally without disrupting Jakarta’s overall waste management services.

He acknowledged that the incident has affected the city’s daily waste deliveries, which typically amount to between 7,400 and 8,000 tonnes per day.

To reduce dependency on Bantargebang, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also promoting waste segregation at source to prevent all waste from being sent to the final disposal site.

“There will certainly be an impact. To address this, we will implement waste segregation at the end point, and at the same time arrange for not all waste to be sent to Bantargebang,” he said.

This will require Jakarta residents to begin limiting their waste disposal.

“For the time being, whilst awaiting the completion of Zone 4A, Zone 3 and two new temporary zones are being prepared as interim solutions,” Pramono explained.

The government is also targeting the swift recovery of Zone 4A following the completion of landslide management and area restoration work.

“Our hope is that Zone 4A can be restored as soon as possible,” Pramono stated.
