Zarina handed over to prosecutors' office

JAKARTA (JP): City Police handed over Ecstasy suspect Zarina and evidence in her case, including the 29,677 pills, to the Provincial Prosecutors' Office yesterday.

Prosecutors' office spokesman J.W. Mere said the office would submit the dossier on Zarina to the West Jakarta District Court at the end of the month.

"For the time being, Zarina will be held at Pondok Bambu women's penitentiary in East Jakarta," Mere said.

Zarina was arrested at her house in West Jakarta by Tangerang police on Aug. 7 for possessing the pills. She escaped the next day during a police escort led by Capt. Ade Sutiana.

Ade, the Chief of the Tangerang Police Detectives, was removed for his negligence.

City Police Spokesman Maj. Nyoman Suriasta said Ade was still in the City Police detention and would appear before a military tribunal. "It's the military tribunal which has the authority to decide if Ade was wrong."

Zarina was re-arrested on Nov. 4 in Houston, U.S., and brought back to Jakarta two weeks later.

She was accused of distributing the pills and charged with violating Article 80 of the Law on Health and health ministry regulations.

If found guilty she faces a maximum 15 years jail or a Rp 300 million fine. (jun)
