Manokwari (ANTARA) - The Yayasan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Amungme dan Kamoro (YPMAK) emphasises that the 4,000 scholarship recipients at secondary school, high school, and higher education levels must improve their achievements.

YPMAK Chairman Leonardus Tumuka in Manokwari, West Papua, on Thursday, stated that the scholarship programme aims to enhance the quality of human resources (HR) through academic and non-academic accomplishments.

“Academic abilities, mental strength, and character must be improved. We will not tolerate otherwise,” Leonardus said.

He explained that all scholarship recipients are children from the Amungme, Kamoro, and five related ethnic groups in Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province.

This has a positive impact on developing superior, competitive, creative, and innovative human resources to face global developments and increasingly complex job market challenges.

“We hope that the younger siblings who receive scholarships can make good use of this opportunity,” he said.

Secondary education scholarship recipients are expected to adapt to school regulations and remain focused on completing their studies, as they will proceed to higher education.

“If during the process they request to return to Timika, the scholarship will be terminated. After graduating high school, we provide the opportunity to attend university or opt for civil service education,” he said.

Chairman of the Ordo Santo Agustinus (OSA) Foundation, Father Markus Mallar, stated that the cooperation between SMA Katolik Villanova and YPMAK has been ongoing for four years, with varying numbers of students each year.

SMA Villanova applies a learning method that combines intra-curricular and extra-curricular activities to nurture the potential of each student.

“Two batches sent by YPMAK have already graduated. Currently, there are approximately 37 students, and four are participating in Paskibra selection,” he said.
