Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - Presidential Special Staff for the Creative Economy, Yovie Widianto, urged students to continue honing their talents so as not to become dependent on artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

In his presentation at the Glow Innovation Talks event in the Auditorium of Brawijaya University, Malang City, East Java, on Wednesday, Yovie stated that talents continuously improved would produce individual competencies.

“Competency skills have a longer lifetime; do not just rely on AI because you all need to be trained,” said Yovie.

In the creative production process, creators need to know that there are boundaries that must not be crossed because they concern intellectual property in AI training data.

On that occasion, he also shared his experiences on how the development of music production processes evolved from the era of cassette tapes, compact discs or CDs, to digital.

In the cassette tape era, creating a musical work was considered more complex, as any single mistake would require restarting the entire process from the beginning.

Therefore, it is no surprise that musicians from the 1970s-1980s had proficient abilities due to frequent practice in various aspects, such as scales, before entering the recording production room.

“Then advancing to CD technology, which was easier, at that time there were 24 tracks, and now the technology is very advanced with the birth of AI and so on; if it’s out of tune, it can be directly edited,” he said.

Yovie urged students to use AI as a medium to bring benefits to other humans.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer at Brawijaya University, Dias Satria, stated that the emergence of AI is not intended to replace human roles but to complement processes, such as research and development.

He conveyed that a work will have higher value when its process is carried out naturally and organically.

“The market can already distinguish products that are fully AI-generated, half using AI, and minimally using AI. Earlier, Mas Yovie also mentioned that too much AI results in very low added value,” he said.

He explained that Brawijaya University is also using AI for development in various fields.

“UB already has an AI Centre, and there we use it to develop complex innovations, such as in medicine, agriculture, and many other aspects,” he stated.
