Youth forum to be held at Senayan
JAKARTA (JP): A large-scale youth's festival called Gebyar Orang Muda 1995, consisting of various competitions, discussions and promotional activities, will be held in Senayan Stadium in Central Jakarta between Oct. 10 and 16.
Ferry Sal Eldin, chairman of the organizing committee, said over the weekend that the festival will feature various activities.
"This event will not consist of only light activities but also dialog forums among youths, discussing a number of latest issues, including the AIDS problem, globalization and music," said Ferry, who is also the chairman of the Indonesian Successors Struggle Association.
The discussions will feature a number of noted speakers who are concerned with youth problems, including well-known psychologist Sarlito Wirawan, chairman of Muhammadiyah organization Amien Rais and rock singer Ikang Fauzi.
Sarlito, for example, will speak at the Sex and AIDS discussion, Amien Rais on Culture and Universality Value and Ikang Fauzi on Youth Music Trend, Antara reported.
The festival will also feature a number of competitions for youngsters, including poetry reading, disco and rap music, dangdut music and comedies, he said.
Ferry said the festival will hold exhibitions and bazaars to promote a wide variety of products, involving not only representatives of government institutions and agencies but also a number of sidewalk vendors.
He said that it is hoped the festival will be attended by as many young people as possible as it is open to all those interested in the program. The tickets are relatively reasonable, he added.
According to Ferry, young people who are interested in participating in the program are warmly welcome. Registration at the committee's secretariat will be closed on Sept. 30, he said. (hhr)
