Jakarta (ANTARA) - The meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesia’s 5th President Megawati Soekarnoputri at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday serves as a strong signal for national unity amid global uncertainties.

“The Prabowo-Megawati meeting must be read as a historical call to maintain the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia amid the world’s storms,” said Co-Founder of the Young Intellectuals Forum Muhammad Sutisna in his statement in Jakarta on Thursday (19/3) night.

Sutisna stated that Indonesia must not be divided by group egos or political differences.

He supports a policy approach that prioritises scale of priorities and urgency.

“The current global situation is truly testing the resilience of every nation. Indonesia must not be divided by political differences or group egos,” said Sutisna.

General Secretary of the PDI Perjuangan Central Executive Board Hasto Kristiyanto conveyed that during the meeting, Megawati provided input to President Prabowo regarding a policy approach grounded in a sense of priority and a sense of urgency.

Sutisna emphasised that both principles must serve as the foundation for every strategic government decision.

“The sense of priority encompasses food security, energy independence, protection of the small people, strengthening of domestic industry, and firm diplomacy,” explained Sutisna.

Sutisna also elaborated on the meaning of urgency in national decision-making for the people’s interests. “A sense of urgency means we can no longer delay major steps merely due to short-term political considerations,” he added.

The meeting also discussed Indonesia’s historical role in the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement. The two national figures committed to Indonesia once again becoming a balancer of global powers through an active free foreign policy.

“An active free policy is not a passive stance, but an active one in defending peace, the sovereignty of small nations, and a more just world order,” said Sutisna.

Sutisna added that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati is a concrete manifestation of the nation’s values of mutual cooperation and deliberative consensus. This dialogue among national figures proves that unity is a realistic choice for the nation to stand firm.

The Young Intellectuals Forum calls on all the nation’s children from various backgrounds to join in weaving national unity. They urge that global uncertainties should not divide the nation and disrupt the focus of hard work.
