Yogyakarta to hold batik festival

YOGYAKARTA: The Yogyakarta batik community, consisting of batik designers, artists and batik lovers, will hold their second international batik festival in September this year.

The festival will be sponsored by the provincial administration.

"After having successfully organized the first event last year, we decided to hold a second festival as part of the effort to promote the province's batik products on the international market," noted batik designer Ardiyanto Pranata said here on Monday.

He said that a number of different kinds of batik products would be exhibited at the Yogyakarta Palace museum and at several well-known exhibition centers in Japan.

He added that registration was open to both local and foreign designers who were interested in participating in the festival. --JP
