YOGYAKARTA – The Hajj Embarkation Centre in Yogyakarta at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) is scheduled to begin dispatching prospective Hajj pilgrims for the first time on 21 April 2026. All prospective pilgrims will start entering the Hajj dormitory from the morning to undergo a series of final processes before being flown to the Holy Land.

“This year, we have our own Hajj embarkation at YIA. The departures will be simultaneous across Indonesia; all Hajj pilgrims will be called to enter the dormitory. Some will depart on the evening of the 21st, others on the 22nd,” said Acting Head of the Yogyakarta Special Region Office of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Jauhar Mustofa, when contacted on Saturday (11/4/2026).

Jauhar assured that the readiness for the Hajj departure currently stands at 99 per cent. The remaining 1 per cent, he said, relates to on-site technical preparations, including coordination among officials and the physical readiness of the pilgrims.

“This 1 per cent is the preparation in Indonesia; the departure also requires coordination with…”

Jauhar explained that before departure, all prospective pilgrims must undergo a final health examination, known as the Final Health Check (PKA), upon entering the embarkation dormitory. The results of this examination will determine whether the pilgrim is deemed fit to fly or if their departure must be postponed.

“So, Hajj pilgrims must undergo another health check when entering the embarkation, called the Final Health Examination (PKA). As in previous years, if the pilgrim passes the examination, they will depart; if not, some departures will be postponed, and others cancelled,” he stated.

Furthermore, Jauhar reminded prospective pilgrims to truly maintain their health condition ahead of departure. This is important to ensure that all processes at the embarkation run smoothly without significant obstacles.

“That’s why I urge all Yogyakarta Hajj pilgrims, especially, to properly prepare their stamina, health, and fitness, so that when called to enter the Hajj dormitory and embarkation, they can be declared fit and airworthy during the examination process,” he said.

The Yogyakarta Embarkation Centre itself will use YIA as the departure point and will operate simultaneously with other embarkation centres across Indonesia. Jauhar said that some pilgrims are scheduled to depart on the evening of 21 April, while other batches will be sent off on 22 April 2026.

From the infrastructure and services perspective, Jauhar stated that all relevant parties have declared their readiness. Coordination with the Hajj Organising Committee (PPIH), task forces, airport management, airlines, and hotel parties has been conducted intensively.

“We have coordinated with the PPIH, and all stakeholders supporting the embarkation operations have stated they are ready. We will finalise it further, possibly on the 16th,” he said.

He added that Angkasa Pura and the airlines have also expressed full readiness. In fact, special services will be provided to facilitate pilgrims, especially the elderly, during the boarding process.

“Angkasa Pura has also stated readiness, and Garuda even mentioned in yesterday’s meeting that this embarkation is not yet fast track and does not implement the Mekkah route. This is decided to open for our Hajj pilgrims to board manually. However, Garuda wants to provide the best service for the Yogyakarta embarkation,” he said.

The Yogyakarta Embarkation Centre is planned to dispatch 26 flight groups (batches) totalling 9,320 pilgrims, originating from the Yogyakarta Special Region as well as the former Kedu Residency areas such as Kebumen, Purworejo, Magelang, Temanggung, and Wonosobo. From the Yogyakarta Special Region alone, the total number of pilgrims reaches 3,148 who will be dispatched.
