Yogyakarta City Government Provides Free Daycare for Little Aresha Victims Until June
The Yogyakarta City Government has prepared at least 15 childcare facilities (daycare) for the children who are victims of violence at Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta. The city government will also cover the costs until the end of the semester or until June.
Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo stated that, in addition to psychological recovery for the children and parents, one of the equally important aspects of this case is the availability of alternative daycare facilities. This is because the majority of parents are still working and need new daycare options for their children as soon as possible.
“This is something very emergency, because generally both parents work and are forced to entrust their children, and what if there is no place to entrust them,” said Hasto during a press conference at the Yogyakarta Police Resort Headquarters, Monday (27/4/2026).
“So we have already identified 15 other daycares or TPAs (childcare centres) in the surrounding area that can accommodate up to around 70 children,” he added.
Hasto said that the Yogyakarta City Government will cover all childcare costs for the children who are victims of Little Aresha Daycare until the end of the semester.
“We have decided to provide funding until the end of the semester. This is something we from the city government can cover to provide support and funding to the victims,” said Hasto.
Met separately, the Head of the Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning Control Agency (DP3AP2KB) of Yogyakarta City, Retnaningtyas, said that the number of daycares prepared by the city government will continue to increase.
“There are 15 for now, and this will be added with 17 more locations that will be opened for the children to transfer schools,” she explained when met in Yogyakarta City, Tuesday (28/4/2026).
Ratna added that parents are free to choose the prepared daycares. However, she has not yet detailed the data on the daycares that are ready to be occupied.
“The costs are covered by the city government until the end of this semester, meaning until June. Parents are given the freedom to choose which one is suitable for their children,” she concluded.
