Yogyakarta City Government Plans WFH Every Friday, ASN Working Hours to Be Extended
The Yogyakarta City Government is beginning to prepare a scheme related to the work-from-home (WFH) policy for one day per week. This policy will be implemented after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo revealed that although it is not yet final, his administration has designed a work pattern adjusted to the policy. One of them is designating Friday as the WFH implementation day for civil servants (ASN) in the Yogyakarta City Government.
Nevertheless, the WFH system planned for Friday is assured not to disrupt the civil service system or public services.
“To keep work effective, my plan is WFH on Fridays and extend office hours on regular days until the afternoon to cover the shortfall from one WFH day,” Hasto said when contacted by reporters via short message on Sunday (22/3/2026).
Citing detikNews, the Government will implement a work-from-home (WFH) policy for one day per week after Lebaran, following budget efficiency measures due to the Middle East conflict. Not only for civil servants (ASN), the government hopes the WFH policy will also be adopted by private companies.
“Then the last one regarding the study, that with high oil prices, efficiency in working time is needed. Where flexibility for work-from-home will be opened. One day in five working days,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (19/3).
“Well, the technicalities are being prepared, because it is hoped that this will not only apply to ASN but also to the private sector and regional governments,” he continued.
The WFH policy will be enforced after Lebaran. However, Airlangga has not specified the exact timing of its implementation.
“Post-Lebaran, but we will determine the timing later,” he said.
His side is currently compiling the implementation technicalities. The government will provide further information later.
“Well, we are preparing all of this again, once the concept is mature, we will immediately inform the public in more detail,” he added.
Regarding the duration of the policy, Airlangga also did not elaborate. According to him, the WFH policy will adjust to the developing situation in the Middle East.
“We will see the situation. Oil price situation, war situation. So we follow the developing situation,” he said.
